A Baltimore City jury has convicted Idris Ramos of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Tyrell Curtis, bringing a 2025 South Broadway killing back into focus as the case heads toward sentencing. Jurors also found Ramos guilty of using a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.
The case began after Baltimore police found Curtis suffering from a stab wound in the 100 block of South Broadway on June 21, 2025. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he later died, according to WMAR's earlier report.
The verdict was returned July 15 after a trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro, Baltimore Witness reported. Prosecutors pointed to surveillance footage, DNA evidence, alleged inconsistencies in Ramos' testimony and video that appeared to show him carrying a pocket knife before the stabbing; Ramos had rejected a plea offer for a second-degree murder conviction.
Ramos Faces Life Plus Three Years At Sentencing
The Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office said Ramos faces a sentence of life plus three years when he returns to court Oct. 13. The office also described him as having a lengthy record of violent offenses in multiple states.
Defense attorney Deborah Warner-Dennis argued that detectives had not fully investigated the case and may have overlooked other suspects. She also challenged the credibility of a key witness with a history of drug use and noted that Ramos' DNA was not recovered from the murder weapon, according to the trial account.
