Afternoon Showers Mostly South
A cold front lingering over the Virginia Piedmont is the troublemaker behind today’s showers and a few thunderstorms. Most of the weather is expected to stay well south of the city, but isolated downpours or a burst of gusty wind could still clip parts of the metro during the evening commute. Most neighborhoods should dry out again by mid-evening. According to NWS Baltimore/Washington, the primary corridor for stronger storms will run from the Shenandoah Valley into central Virginia.
Heat Builds Through The Week
Humidity will hang around while sunshine increases, pushing highs into the low 90s on Tuesday and toward 100°F by Wednesday. Heat-index readings are expected to top 100°F in some spots. If Baltimore issues a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert, cooling centers and additional services for vulnerable residents will be activated, according to the Baltimore City Health Department. Residents are urged to take extra breaks, drink plenty of water, and move strenuous outdoor work to the cooler parts of the day.

Small Craft Advisories are in effect for the Lower Tidal Potomac and southern Bay zones from 5 p.m. this afternoon through 4 a.m. Monday, so boaters should plan for choppy water and locally gusty winds. For evening commuters, expect sticky pavement and the possibility of a brief, heavy downpour slowing traffic. Otherwise, skies turn partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 69°F.
