A quiet Sunday lunch hour in Lansdowne took a sharp turn when a man allegedly threatened people inside a Wawa on North Lansdowne Avenue, then holed up in a nearby apartment building. Police evacuated neighbors and customers, locked down the block, and called in backup before the hours-long standoff ended without anyone getting hurt.
What happened
Around 12:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Wawa after reports that a man was making threats in the store and then ran to a nearby apartment building. Police said the man, described as known to law enforcement, warned he would "grab his gun" and threatened to "fight any officers who entered the building." That was enough for authorities to set up a perimeter and request the Delaware County Emergency Response Team, according to CBS Philadelphia.

The Wawa listed in police paperwork is identified in state records as Wawa Store No. 73 at 67 North Lansdowne Avenue in Lansdowne Borough, one of the town's main commercial blocks, according to the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
Police response and arrest
Officers tried repeatedly to deescalate the situation, including calling the man by phone, but he refused to cooperate. At one point he briefly stepped outside before retreating back into the building, authorities said. The Delaware County Emergency Response Team ultimately entered a third-floor apartment and took the man into custody without further incident, and police reported no injuries.
Lansdowne Police Chief Kenneth C. Rutherford Jr. later praised the operation, saying the officers' "professionalism, patience, teamwork, and commitment to de-escalation resulted in a peaceful resolution," according to CBS Philadelphia.
