A man found unresponsive on the CTA Blue Line tracks near O’Hare airport on Thursday later died while being taken to a hospital, according to Chicago police, who are now trying to sort out how he ended up along the rails.
Authorities have not released the man’s name and say the cause of death remains unclear as detectives continue to gather information at the scene.
Officers discovered the man in the 5800 block of North Cumberland Avenue in the O’Hare neighborhood, and emergency crews transported him but he died en route, according to WGN‑TV. Chicago police are treating the case as a death investigation and have not provided details about what led to the man being on or near the tracks.
Where It Happened
The 5800 block of North Cumberland Avenue lines up with the CTA’s Cumberland station, which lists its address as 5800 N. Cumberland Ave. and sits in the Kennedy Expressway median near O’Hare, according to the CTA. The station’s service page showed minor Blue Line delays around the same time, a reminder of how quickly a situation on the tracks can ripple through airport‑bound service.
Investigation and Context
Police say the death remains under investigation and that no identity or cause of death has been released, according to WGN‑TV. Officials have also not said whether they suspect foul play.
Similar emergencies on the Blue Line have surfaced before, including a man found dead at O’Hare in 2025 and another unresponsive passenger who later died in April, reported by the Chicago Sun‑Times. Together, the cases highlight the difficult calls transit workers and first responders face when trouble unfolds along one of Chicago’s busiest train lines.
