A busy Williamsbridge intersection turned into a crime scene Monday afternoon after a moped rider struck a 50-year-old woman, then took off, leaving her critically injured, police said.
The collision happened at White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road, a hectic crossroads in the Bronx. Emergency responders rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, while detectives hit the sidewalks looking for surveillance video and anyone who saw the crash.
According to CBS News New York, the rider slammed into the woman and sped off before officers arrived. Police have not yet released a public description of either the driver or the moped, leaving investigators heavily dependent on cameras and eyewitnesses.
News 12 New York reported that a 911 call came in at 4:19 p.m. The FDNY confirmed the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and local crews were seen canvassing nearby businesses for surveillance footage, the outlet added.
