
A 45-year-old man was slashed in the neck while waiting for a northbound 5 train at the East 180th Street subway station in the Bronx, and police are now asking riders for help identifying the attacker. The assault happened Sunday morning, turning a routine platform wait into a violent confrontation before the suspect disappeared.

According to an NYPD Crime Stoppers alert posted Thursday, an unidentified male used an unknown object to slash the victim on the neck at about 8:35 a.m. The post places the attack on the northbound platform at East 180th Street, within the NYPD's 48th Precinct.
The station serves the 2 and 5 subway lines and is located near East 180th Street and Morris Park Avenue. The NYPD's 48th Precinct covers parts of the central Bronx, including West Farms, East Tremont and Belmont.
Police Offer Up To $3,500 For Information
NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips, according to the NYPD Crime Stoppers program.
Police have not publicly identified the man sought in the alert, and the post does not describe a motive for the attack. Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have cellphone or surveillance video is being asked to contact investigators rather than approach a possible suspect.
Separate Attack Was Reported Near The Same Station
The wanted bulletin comes months after a separate assault near the East 180th Street station involving an MTA worker. Hoodline reported in March that a transit employee was beaten and robbed in an employee parking lot near the station before a suspect was arrested.
