An early-morning shooting inside a Jerome Avenue apartment building left a 34-year-old Fordham woman grazed by a bullet Monday, as neighbors poured into the hallway in tears and watched police lead a man out in handcuffs. Paramedics rushed the woman to St. Barnabas Hospital, where officials said she is expected to recover.
What police say
Officers responded to a shooting at 2700 Jerome Ave. around 1:21 a.m., where they found the woman with a graze wound to her left ear and took her to St. Barnabas Hospital, according to News12 Bronx. The outlet reports a person of interest was taken into custody at the scene and that the victim is expected to be OK. That individual has not been charged as detectives continue to piece together what happened.
Investigators could not immediately say whether the woman and the suspected gunman knew each other, leaving one of the biggest questions on the block still unanswered.
Video captures arrest
Video from the hallway shows EMS workers wheeling the victim out on a stretcher while neighbors hug and cry, a raw snapshot of a sleepless night on Jerome Avenue. In the same footage, a man is led from the building in handcuffs, and he is heard shouting, “relax, please” toward someone at the doorway, News12 Bronx reported.
Police say the person of interest remains in custody while detectives canvass for witnesses and pull any available surveillance video, hoping the cameras caught what the late-night chaos did not make clear.

The shooting caps off a tense stretch along the Jerome Avenue corridor. Earlier this month, a separate incident inside a Fordham lounge left a man dead in a fatal shooting inside a Fordham lounge. Residents and advocates have been pushing for more patrols and additional cameras after a string of violent episodes in the area.
