The advisory follows a June 30 incident near Kapaia, when county officials reported an estimated 1,000-gallon wastewater overflow at the Kapaia Sewage Pump Station that "may have entered a nearby stream" and could have reached state waters, according to Hawaii News Now. County crews were sent out to pump down the wet well, disinfect affected areas and investigate what went wrong, as described in a release from the County of Kauaʻi.
