A 34-year-old Canadian man from Waterloo, Ontario, died Thursday after his vehicle rear-ended a heavy wrecker on Interstate 71 near La Grange. No one else involved in the crash was reported injured.
Police responded to the injury crash near the La Grange on-ramp, where the man was identified as Parvina Shodieva. As reported by WLKY, Shodieva died at the scene.
The heavy wrecker was assisting a tractor cab stopped on the shoulder when Shodieva's vehicle struck it from behind. The initial report did not provide details about what led to the collision or whether traffic was restricted after emergency crews arrived.
Crash Remains Under Investigation
The crash happened along an Oldham County stretch of I-71 that has been the focus of state safety and access improvements. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says its La Grange-area interchange project was designed in part to reduce exposure to identified high-crash segments and improve emergency response times.
That broader transportation work does not establish a cause in Thursday's collision. Oldham County police are continuing to investigate, and WLKY reported that additional details had not yet been released.
