Four years after her son was gunned down in a University City parking lot, Monique Dulin is still showing up, still asking the same hard question: Who killed 22-year-old Tashon Mock? Marking the somber anniversary, Dulin renewed her plea for answers and accountability, saying the hurt has not faded and that she believes people who were there that night are still keeping quiet. She told reporters that while no arrest can bring her son back, seeing someone charged in his killing would offer at least a measure of closure.
Mock was shot in the early morning hours of July 16, 2022, in the parking lot of a convenience store along University City Boulevard and later died at a hospital. He was 22, and police say another man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the same incident, according to The Charlotte Observer. The shooting unfolded during a stretch of violent incidents in that part of north Charlotte and remains an active homicide investigation.
Mother's plea
“There were too many people out there that particular night for no one not to know anything,” Dulin said in an interview, accusing witnesses of staying silent and urging anyone with information to step up, according to WBTV. She added that an arrest and conviction would not bring her son back but could give the family “some sense of peace” after years of unanswered questions.
Investigators still working
Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say the case is very much alive and that they are still hunting for leads from the public, local coverage noted at the time of the killing. Initial police reports said officers arrived in the 9500 block of University City Boulevard to find two people with gunshot wounds and asked anyone with information to contact investigators, per WSOC. Authorities have said that while someone was charged in connection with aspects of the incident, no one has been formally charged with Mock's killing.
