Cleveland woke up steamy today, July 15, with clear skies, muggy air, and morning readings near 75F. Dewpoints were already hovering around 70F, setting the stage for a brutally sticky day. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s, but with the humidity, it will feel more like the upper 90s to around 100F. If you have outdoor plans, build in breaks and find air-conditioned spaces during the hottest stretch of the day.
Heat Advisory And How Hot It Will Feel
According to NWS Cleveland, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. today, July 15, with peak heat indices expected in the mid-90s to low-100s. The forecast calls for a high near 92F and west winds of 710 mph this afternoon.
Smoke And Air Quality
On top of the heat, wildfire smoke from large fires to our north is expected to spread into the region tonight until tomorrow and could linger into the weekend. The incoming smoke may bring hazy skies and reduced visibility around the area.
An Air Quality Advisory for ground-level ozone is in effect for parts of Northeast Ohio, according to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, and conditions may be unhealthy for sensitive groups. People with asthma, chronic lung disease, the elderly, and children are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity and check hourly air-quality readings before heading outside.
Evening Commute And Weekend Outlook
For today's evening commute, expect patchy smoke before 11 p.m., then more widespread smoke with a slight chance of light showers overnight. Lows will only dip into the upper 70s, offering limited relief from the heat.
Looking ahead, showers and thunderstorms become more likely Friday night into Saturday, with Saturday afternoon and evening carrying the best chance for widespread storms. Forecasters note that the exact timing and intensity are still uncertain, so plans may require some last-minute tweaking.
If you must be outside this afternoon, try to front-load errands and activities into the cooler morning hours or move them indoors where possible.
