A Jacksonville woman remained detained Monday after deputies say she shot her ex-boyfriend in the leg during a domestic dispute at the Courtney Manor Apartments in Ortega. Deputies found the man, believed to be in his mid-20s, with a single gunshot wound, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported him to a nearby hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The woman, believed to be in her mid-40s, stayed at the scene and was detained by officers.
Officers responded around 10:35 a.m. to reports of a shooting at 5620 Collins Road and began processing the scene, the sheriff’s office told reporters. Crime-scene detectives and members of the Robbery and Violent Crime Unit canvassed the complex for surveillance video and interviewed witnesses while investigators followed leads, according to News4JAX.
Detectives Probe Domestic Dispute
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the two had previously been in a romantic relationship and had separated several months earlier. The man reportedly went to the woman’s apartment, an argument broke out, and the confrontation ended with the shooting. Investigators called the incident isolated and said there was no ongoing threat to neighbors.
How To Help Investigators
Detectives asked anyone with information or video to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office tip line at 904-630-0500 or email [email protected]. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through First Coast Crime Stoppers, and the sheriff’s account of the scene was provided to reporters, per News4JAX.
Collins Road and nearby apartment corridors have seen other violent incidents in recent years, a pattern local outlets have noted. Hoodline previously covered a fatal Collins Road apartment shooting in April in an article titled Woman Gunned Down Inside Westside, which drew a similar JSO response.
The sheriff’s office has not released the victim’s name or said whether charges have been filed. The investigation remains active, and officials said they will release more details as they become available.
