A weekday morning argument on a northbound 7 train turned violent in Queens, with a rider punched in the face and struck repeatedly with the handle of a pocketknife. Police are now asking the public to help identify the person behind the attack.
The assault happened Monday at about 10:55 a.m. aboard a northbound 7 train at the 33 Street–Rawson Street station, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers. The victim, a 22-year-old man, was involved in a verbal dispute with an unidentified person before the confrontation escalated.
Police say the individual produced a pocketknife, punched the victim in the face and used the knife handle to strike him repeatedly. The person then fled the station on foot, and remains unidentified in the police bulletin.
Police Offer Up To $3,500 For Information
The MTA identifies 33 Street–Rawson Street as a 7 train station at Queens Boulevard and 33rd Street. The station falls within the NYPD's 108th Precinct, which serves southwestern Queens, including Sunnyside and Woodside, according to the New York City Police Department.
NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment, according to the program's official tip portal. Anyone with information can call 1-800-577-TIPS, send a direct message to @NYPDTips on X, or submit a tip online.
Another Queens Train Assault Recently Drew A Police Appeal
The new alert follows a separate Queens subway assault covered by Hoodline's recent train attack report, in which a 15-year-old boy was slashed and punched aboard a northbound A train near Beach 67th Street. That case and Monday's 7 train assault are separate incidents, and police have not indicated that they are connected.
