Fort Worth police say an 18-year-old was gunned down outside an East Side apartment complex after being lured into what looked like a marijuana deal but was allegedly a deadly set-up. Two teenagers are now jailed on murder charges, and investigators say one of them was already out on bond with a GPS ankle monitor that quietly traced his movements.
Victim Found Outside Riverwalk Apartments
Officers were called just before midnight to the Riverwalk apartment complex in the 1400 block of Carol Oaks Lane, where they found a man wounded in the parking lot. Medics tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later identified him as 18-year-old Torrey Marshall, and police said several people were detained at the scene as the investigation got underway, according to KERA News.
Detectives Say It Was a Set-Up
An arrest-warrant affidavit lays out what detectives say happened before the shooting. According to the filing, phone calls and messages were used to arrange a meeting, and two suspects allegedly enlisted another man to lure Marshall to an apartment unit under the pretense of buying marijuana.
The affidavit describes a person who appeared to be 18-year-old Alonzo Reyes chasing Marshall through the parking lot, with an arm outstretched as if pointing a gun. Marshall was hit in the right thigh and, according to the document, yelled, "Stop, don't shoot me," and was unarmed.
Investigators say GPS records placed Reyes at the complex from about 11:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The affidavit also notes that Reyes and 17-year-old Gerald Chamberlain were both out on bond at the time, and that one of them had been ordered to wear a court-issued GPS ankle monitoring device, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Arrests and Charges
Fort Worth Police detectives later arrested Reyes and Chamberlain. Booking records show both teens were transferred to the Tarrant County Jail on murder and related charges. The department’s recent-arrests roster lists Reyes and Chamberlain on murder counts and associated aggravated-assault charges and shows they were booked in the early hours of July 20–21, 2026, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Investigation and Next Steps
The arrest-warrant affidavit was authored by Detective Jeremy Balders, and the case was investigated alongside Detective Jerry Cedillo, according to reporting that reviewed the court document. Prosecutors will make the final call on formal charges, and detectives say they are still gathering evidence as the case moves toward court, the Star-Telegram reports.
