A routine traffic stop in Nashville turned into a rooftop weed recovery mission on Wednesday, after Metro detectives say the driver of a Mercedes fled at more than 100 mph and started tossing marijuana out of the car and onto nearby homes.

Police allege the driver, identified as 19-year-old Markeese Crowell, refused to pull over in the Brick Church Pike area and took off, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit into the Chesapeake Circle neighborhood. During the chase, investigators say Crowell threw two bags of marijuana onto the roofs of two homes while trying to get away. Officers later stopped the car, arrested Crowell, and recovered the discarded bags from the rooftops.

According to WKRN, the Metro Nashville Police Department’s air unit tracked the Mercedes from above, and the vehicle was brought to a stop on Chesapeake Drive. Detectives reported finding the Mercedes keys in Crowell’s pocket when they took him into custody along Rainwood Drive. Officers then retrieved the two small bags of marijuana from the roofs of two separate houses, police told reporters.

Charges and booking

Nashville.gov booking entries list Crowell as jailed on a $43,000 bond. Records show he faces multiple counts, including misdemeanor and felony evading arrest, aggravated reckless driving, marijuana possession, driving on a suspended license, and evidence tampering. Those charges appear on the Davidson County daily booking list maintained by Metro Nashville authorities and county booking logs. Prosecutors will review the case and set court dates in Davidson County court.

What’s next

Crowell’s case will move through the Davidson County court system, where an arraignment and any bond review are expected to be scheduled in the coming days. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the chase or the alleged rooftop tosses to contact the Metro Nashville Police Department, as reported by WKRN, or to monitor the department’s public pages and the daily booking list for updates.
