Early Sunday, a late-night car crowd at Willmore Park found itself surrounded by flashing lights instead of phone cameras. St. Louis police moved in on what they called an overnight street takeover, arresting nine adults and taking four juveniles to a reunification center. Officers also seized nine cars and two firearms during the response, according to authorities.
As reported by First Alert 4, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the group had gathered in Willmore Park for the takeover-style event. By the time officers finished clearing the scene, nine adults were in custody, four juveniles were headed to a reunification center, and two guns and nine vehicles had been seized.
Willmore Park, one of the city’s larger green spaces in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood, covers roughly 105 acres and typically draws neighbors for ballgames, walks around the lakes and dog park hangouts. According to the City of St. Louis Parks, the park is maintained by the city’s Parks Division and serves as a recreational hub for residents across the south side.
Police Say Crackdown Continues
The sweep at Willmore Park is the latest move in an ongoing crackdown on takeover-style stunt driving across St. Louis. In late May, officers broke up a similar gathering, part of a pattern that has police devoting more attention to weekend car sideshows.
As reported by First Alert 4, Chief Robert Tracy warned at the time, “We’re going to stay on top of it,” as SLMPD stepped up details aimed at disrupting stunt driving and related street takeover activity.
What We Don't Yet Know
So far, local coverage of the July 5 operation has not included specific charge information for the adults arrested, and police have not publicly released booking details. The four juveniles were taken to a reunification center so they could be processed and reunited with family, according to police reports.
Police did not immediately respond to additional requests for comment beyond their initial announcement. Anyone with video or information about takeover activity is asked to contact the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
