A 69-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Bridge Road and State Route 9N in Crown Point, Essex County. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and tried to save the driver, but he did not survive. State troopers shut down the roadway while medics treated the injured and investigators began piecing together what happened.
According to MyChamplainValley, which cited a statement from the New York State Police, the crash occurred when a green 2019 Toyota Prius traveling west on Bridge Road entered the SR-9N intersection and collided with a black 2012 Toyota Highlander heading north. Troopers identified the Prius driver as 69-year-old Larry Smith of Baltimore, Maryland. He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. Officials said the Highlander’s driver and two passengers were taken to Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, while a passenger from the Prius was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center and remained in critical condition.
