A cybertip funneled through a child-safety task force ended with an Aurora man in handcuffs, after detectives say digital forensics tied him to suspected child sexual abuse material uncovered during a search of his home.

Dustin J. Rumple, 28, was arrested by Aurora detectives on June 23 and is facing multiple felony counts. He remains in custody at the Kane County jail ahead of a July 8 court date. Police say his arrest is separate from a months-long probe that produced a 25-count indictment against another Aurora man.

According to a department news release summarized by Shaw Local, detectives executed a search warrant at Rumple’s residence, where forensic examiners recovered numerous files investigators allege depict child sexual abuse. Officers say Rumple was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Kane County jail. The release also urged anyone with information to contact the Aurora Police Department at 630-256-5500.

Police say the investigation into Rumple began after detectives received a cybertip through the Internet Crimes Against Children data system, then secured several warrants to examine related online accounts, Patch reported. Digital forensic work allegedly turned up material involving very young children, which authorities say led the Kane County State's Attorney’s Office to approve felony charges. Detectives assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and specialized investigative units handled the digital review.

A separate cybertip received in October, authorities say, led to the arrest of 27-year-old Renso Palomo on a 25-count indictment that alleges production, dissemination and possession of child sexual abuse material, the Daily Herald reported. Court records and local reporting indicate Palomo has a prior conviction related to a child-sex offense and is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center while he awaits a hearing. Police described both investigations as the product of months of digital forensics and coordinated investigative work.

How cyber tips turn into cases

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline collects reports from tech companies and the public, then routes them to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. NCMEC explains that analysts review incoming tips and forward only those that contain usable investigative leads. Regional Internet Crimes Against Children task forces, along with their digital forensic teams, use those leads to seek search warrants, examine devices and connect online accounts to real-world suspects. Investigators say the process often demands specialized tools and many hours of work to separate illegal exploitative files from lawful material and to build probable cause for charges.

Charges and what comes next

Prosecutors approved six felony counts against Rumple - four alleging possession of child sexual abuse material involving victims under 13 and two alleging possession involving victims under 17 - according to Patch. He remains held at the Kane County jail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 8, when a judge will consider detention and other pretrial issues. If he is convicted, the charges carry felony penalties, and police say additional counts could follow as detectives continue reviewing digital evidence.

Chief Matt Thomas said the department will keep working with law-enforcement partners to hold offenders accountable and protect the community, echoing the message in the department’s news release cited by Shaw Local. Police are asking anyone with information to call 630-256-5500 or contact the Aurora Police Department’s tip line. Authorities say they expect to release more details as both cases move through the courts.
