A man who allegedly talked his way to a Northwest D.C. doorstep with a story about a missing child is now the subject of a police search after the encounter turned into a burglary and a threat to shoot someone chasing him. The Metropolitan Police Department has released surveillance images as investigators try to identify him.
According to WJLA, the burglary happened around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Acker Place NW. Police said the man knocked on the door and told the resident that his child was missing and that he needed to use a phone.
When the resident turned to retrieve a phone, the suspect allegedly pushed the door open and entered the home. Investigators said he took property before running away.
Police Say The Suspect Threatened Someone During Chase
The resident chased the man, and another person joined the pursuit, according to a report by WJLA. Police said the suspect threatened to shoot the second person, who stopped following him.
Security cameras captured images of the suspect, but police have not publicly identified him. Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the man to avoid approaching him and contact investigators instead.
