A Dallas police senior corporal turned himself in to the county sheriff’s office and now faces two Class A misdemeanor charges, putting a Northwest Patrol Division officer on administrative leave while an internal investigation moves forward.
Senior Corporal Robert Huynh, badge No. 11608, surrendered yesterday, according to a Dallas Police Department notice. The charges are assault involving bodily injury and official oppression, but the department has not released details about the alleged incident, the person involved or where it occurred.
Huynh joined the Dallas Police Department in November 2018 and is assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division. The department said he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, a standard separation from patrol duties while the criminal and disciplinary tracks proceed.

Under Texas Penal Code Section 39.03, official oppression generally involves a public servant using official authority to intentionally subject someone to unlawful mistreatment, detention, search, seizure or denial of a legal right. The statute classifies the offense as a Class A misdemeanor.
Texas’ assault statute includes intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury, with that conduct generally charged as a Class A misdemeanor unless specific circumstances elevate it. The allegations are not findings of guilt, and the available public notice does not explain what prosecutors believe Huynh did.

The brief announcement leaves the central questions unanswered, including whether the alleged conduct occurred while Huynh was working, whether a civilian reported it or whether additional charges could follow.
