Dallas is starting this morning with clear skies and temperatures already in the low 80s, but the real furnace arrives this afternoon. The city is forecast to reach 101 degrees, with the heat index climbing as high as 108. It is another day to schedule outdoor plans early, late, or preferably somewhere with air conditioning.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. today across Dallas and much of North and Central Texas. According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth office, south-southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will do little to blunt the heat, and additional advisories or an Extreme Heat Warning could be needed later this week.
Friday Could Be The Week's Worst Heat
Tomorrow looks even hotter, with a high near 102 and heat-index values up to 109. Friday is currently the peak, with sunny skies and a high near 105, while overnight temperatures remain stuck in the low 80s. Rain chances stay close to zero through Friday, making shade and cooling breaks especially important.
A Brief Weekend Dip Arrives Saturday
A weak front could bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, but the odds are only around 20 percent, and most locations should stay dry. Saturday will still reach about 101 degrees before next Sunday offers a modest step down to 98. The heat then rebounds to around 101 degrees Monday and Tuesday.
Heat Safety Matters Through The Week
Drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning, and move strenuous work to the morning or evening when possible. Check on older neighbors and anyone without reliable cooling, and never leave children or pets in a vehicle. Anyone showing signs of heat exhaustion should be moved to a cool place immediately; heat stroke is an emergency requiring a 911 call.
