Dallas woke up sticky today, with temperatures already hovering near 82°F and the heat set to crank into the low 100s by afternoon. Heat-index values are expected to push close to 109°F by mid-to-late day. A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. CDT today, so residents are urged to steer clear of strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours. South-southwest winds will stay light to moderate and no measurable rain is expected today.
Forecast Through the Week
The triple-digit streak is not going anywhere fast. Highs are expected to reach around 102°F today and tomorrow, climbing into the 103–104°F range on Tuesday and Wednesday, and holding in the low 100s through the end of the workweek. Overnight lows will barely offer a break, lingering in the low 80s. Humidity will keep afternoon heat-index readings in the 100–110°F range most days. According to National Weather Service Fort Worth, the heat ridge is expected to stick around, and more Heat Advisories are likely in the coming days.
Where To Find Relief
The City of Dallas advises residents to use public libraries, recreation centers, and designated community sites as cooling centers during normal business hours. Two popular options are the West Dallas Multipurpose Center at 2828 Fish Trap Rd and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. For operating hours and specific details, visit the City of Dallas.
Heat Safety Tips
Try to avoid heavy outdoor activity from about noon to 8 p.m., drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, and keep an eye on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets. If someone becomes confused, faints, or shows signs of heat stroke, including a very high body temperature and altered mental status, call 911 immediately.
