Five teenagers were hospitalized late last night after a carjacked sedan slammed into a steel traffic-signal support pole at the end of a brief Dallas police chase. Officers recovered multiple handguns from the wrecked car, and police say charges against the juvenile occupants are pending. Authorities report that some of the teens suffered serious injuries, but all are expected to survive.
Carjacking, License-Plate Hit And Chase
According to FOX 4 Dallas‑Fort Worth, the chain of events began around 10:37 p.m. when a man was carjacked at gunpoint in the 4500 block of Live Oak Street in Old East Dallas, and the suspects took off in a white Honda. A Flock license-plate recognition camera later flagged the stolen sedan at an apartment complex in the 9400 block of Bruton Road in Pleasant Grove. Officers then spotted the Honda on Bruton near South Buckner Boulevard, tried to pull it over, and the driver hit the gas instead of the brakes.
The pursuit ended at about 11:02 p.m. when the Honda lost control and smashed into a steel traffic-signal support pole at Bruton Road and Second Avenue, badly mangling the vehicle, according to FOX 4 Dallas‑Fort Worth.
Pleasant Grove Corridor Has Seen Recent Violence
The crash happened along a stretch of Bruton Road in Pleasant Grove that has already been on the radar for recent violence. According to Hoodline, a daylight shooting on Bruton Road left a teenager dead earlier this month. The Dallas Police Department's public blog has also logged multiple recent responses in the Bruton Road and Pleasant Grove area, underscoring the neighborhood's ongoing public-safety focus, per DPD Beat.
Investigation And What's Next
Detectives from the Dallas Police Department's robbery and vehicular crimes units, along with crime-scene personnel, are investigating both the crash and the earlier carjacking. Investigators say they recovered multiple handguns from inside the Honda. Charges are pending against the five juvenile suspects, and officials are reviewing video and witness statements as the case moves forward, according to FOX 4 Dallas‑Fort Worth.
