A newly released video captures a Dallas box truck rolling through a red light and directly into the path of a DART train near Pearl/Arts District Station, sending the truck onto its side. The crash turned a routine downtown crossing into a serious collision in a matter of seconds.
The footage highlighted by CBS Texas shows the truck entering the intersection after the signal had turned red before the train struck its side. Firefighters said four people aboard the train had to be checked out at a hospital.
The collision happened July 15 around 12:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of Bryan Street, near Pearl/Arts District Station, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. First responders freed the occupants of the overturned truck, five people on the train reported injuries, and the commercial truck driver was not hurt.
Pearl/Arts District Is A Four-Line Downtown Rail Hub
The crash occurred at one of DART’s most central downtown junctions. The transit agency’s station guide places Pearl/Arts District on Bryan Street east of Pearl and says the stop is served by the Red, Blue, Green and Orange lines.
Rail service was disrupted while crews cleared the wreck, with shuttle buses used between several downtown stations before regular service resumed. The newly released footage adds a clearer view of the moments leading up to the crash, while available reports have not identified the truck driver or announced any criminal charges.
