A semitruck driver was killed Friday after his rig rolled onto its side on the northbound I-11 on-ramp at Boulder Highway in southeast Las Vegas, shutting down the ramp and drawing an extended emergency response as crews worked the scene for hours.
The crash was reported just before 11:50 a.m. on the northbound I-11 on-ramp at Boulder Highway, when the semitractor-trailer overturned and the driver was rushed to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries, according to the Las Vegas Review‑Journal. The overturned big rig came to rest on its side while first responders secured the area, and troopers with the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol began piecing together what led up to the rollover.
Crash details
According to the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol incident log, the northbound on-ramp at Boulder Highway was listed as closed for an undetermined amount of time while crews cleared the wreckage and investigators processed the scene. Authorities have not released many additional details as the trooper investigation continues.
Why this intersection matters
Boulder Highway has been the focus of a multiyear safety overhaul, including new lighting and streetscape projects aimed at cutting down on a steady run of serious crashes along the corridor. Earlier this year, the "Reimagine Boulder Highway" project flipped the switch on roughly 400 new streetlights across a 7.5-mile stretch, part of a broader push to make the road safer. Even with those upgrades in place, the I-11 and Boulder Highway interchange has remained a repeat scene for crash-related closures, and drivers in the southeast valley should expect delays while the latest wreck is cleared.
