A deadly shooting near Hollywood Regional Park turned a stretch of East Las Vegas into an active crime scene Saturday, leaving one person dead and neighbors watching police comb the area for clues.
Las Vegas police said the shooting happened in the 1500 block of South Hollywood Boulevard, near Charleston Boulevard. Detectives remained on scene into the evening, gathering evidence and trying to track down anyone who saw or heard what unfolded.
Police response and investigation
According to KLAS/8 News Now, Metro officers responded after reports of gunfire in the area and found a person suffering from what police described as fatal injuries.
As of the station's report, the department had not released the victim's name or provided a description of any suspect. Detectives were canvassing nearby homes and businesses, pulling surveillance footage and walking door to door as they worked to reconstruct the moments leading up to the shooting.
Hollywood Regional Park and safety
Hollywood Regional Park sits on the eastern edge of the Las Vegas Valley beneath Frenchman Mountain and is home to walking trails, softball fields and a skate park, according to Clark County Parks and Recreation. The county notes that the park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The park rules also make it clear that carrying or discharging firearms on county property is prohibited without written approval, a reminder that now lands with extra weight given the deadly shooting just outside the grounds.
Next steps for investigators
Metro's homicide detectives are leading the case and have asked anyone with video or information about the shooting to contact police. Investigators said the probe remains active, and no arrests had been announced at the time of the most recent report from KLAS/8 News Now.
