Troopers and emergency crews converged on the scene near mile marker 279 in the pre-dawn hours and stayed put as traffic stacked up along the Pasco County stretch.
According to Tampa Bay 28, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred at mile marker 279, with troopers dispatched at about 2:52 a.m. on July 10. All southbound lanes were still closed as of 6:30 a.m., according to FL511.
A photo gallery from WPTV showed the shutdown stretching between Exit 279 (SR-54) and Exit 275 (SR-56). The station reported that the closure could last into the afternoon, potentially snarling evening commutes for drivers headed toward the Tampa area.
