Late Friday on Dearborn's west side, a disturbance call on New York Street ended with an officer shooting and wounding a man outside a home, police said. Officers were dispatched just before 11 p.m. to the 24000 block after neighbors reported a commotion. During the encounter, an officer fired and struck the man, who was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. Michigan State Police will investigate the shooting.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, callers told dispatchers a 53-year-old man had been yelling 'Die, die, die.' Police say the man then came out of the house carrying a long gun, and an officer opened fire, hitting him. Officers immediately rendered aid before taking him into custody at the scene.
FOX 2 Detroit reports the Dearborn Fire Department transported the man to a hospital, where he is being treated for what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said no officers or other people were injured and emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the community. Because an officer was involved, Michigan State Police has taken over the investigation.

Officials have not yet released the officer's name and said updates will be provided as investigators clear them for public release.
