A road-rage confrontation in Dearborn ended with gunfire Wednesday, and police are now looking for the driver who fled before officers arrived. Investigators believe two people were involved and that shots were fired at one vehicle near Michigan Avenue and Gulley Road.
According to a report by The Detroit News, officers were dispatched after a report of shots fired. Westbound Michigan Avenue was closed for part of the investigation, while detectives examined the scene. Authorities had not released additional details by Thursday.
The incident arrives as Dearborn is making aggressive driving a more explicit police target. In a June announcement, the City of Dearborn said its new Aggressive Driving Unit would focus on reckless, careless, distracted and other hazardous behavior, using three electric Ford Mustang Mach-E police vehicles. The city also said Dearborn officers issued more than 33,000 traffic citations in 2025.
Police Searching As Metro Detroit Road Rage Escalates
The Detroit News described the shooting as the latest example of road-rage offenses in Metro Detroit. Its report also cited a Pontiac woman scheduled for trial in August after authorities accused her of breaking a man’s leg with her car, a May case involving a semitrailer driver accused of shooting at a family on U.S. 23, and June charges against two Florida men after a Bloomfield Township road-rage incident.
The Dearborn shooter remains unidentified, and police have not announced an arrest or criminal charges. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the confrontation or the fleeing driver to contact the Dearborn Police Department.
