Lakeland Man Nabbed After Parking-Lot Beatdown Outside Checkers

A 51-year-old Lakeland man was arrested Sunday after deputies say he attacked a woman in the parking lot of a Checkers on U.S. 98 North, then fought with officers who tried to take him into custody. Witnesses told deputies the vehicle involved took off, but law enforcement later tracked it down and say the man was still assaulting the woman as they moved in. In a social media post, the sheriff’s office listed charges against Caballero Alarcon including violation of an injunction against the victim, resisting with violence (third-degree felony), battery on a law-enforcement officer (third-degree felony), resisting without violence (misdemeanor), corruption by threat (misdemeanor), violation of probation and battery with a prior conviction. "A deputy saw Rey Caballero Alarcon still physically striking the female victim as he closed in on the vehicle," the sheriff’s post states. Deputies say the first officer who tried to arrest Caballero Alarcon was met with resistance, threats and spitting before backup could arrive, and investigators allege the suspect had been drinking for most of the day. The sheriff’s office says additional deputies ultimately assisted in getting Caballero Alarcon restrained and secured in a patrol car, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
