The call to police came in shortly after 8:30 p.m., and officers quickly blocked off the area while investigators worked the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim's name or any details about the bus involved.
Police call logs reviewed by WISN show the initial report came in after 8:30 p.m. on July 19, and a crew from the station was on scene as officers confirmed the intersection would remain closed during the investigation. WISN reported it would update its coverage as additional details become available.
Downtown Transit Corridor Is A High‑Injury Area
According to the City of Milwaukee’s Vision Zero program, downtown corridors are part of the city’s high‑injury network and are flagged for safety improvements. The program’s traffic‑violence dashboard and action plan are meant to steer redesigns and other interventions toward locations where serious crashes cluster, including major transit routes like those cutting through downtown.
Recent Crashes Highlight Ongoing Risks
Other serious bicycle collisions this month have kept the risks for cyclists in the spotlight. On July 13, a crash that sent a bicyclist to the hospital near the Oak Leaf Trail was reported by FOX6 Milwaukee, a reminder of how quickly a routine ride on Milwaukee streets and trails can turn dangerous.
Milwaukee police have not released the victim’s identity, the name of the bus operator, or a probable cause for Sunday’s crash, according to WISN. Crash reports completed by MPD are generally available through the department’s Open Records Section within about 14 days, the department says, and anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee police.
