Cakes By Jeff The Chef, the Downtown Commons dessert shop best known for its cheesecakes, is wrapping up its run at DOCO at the end of the month. The terrace storefront will serve its last slices on July 31, trimming one more late-night dessert option for event-goers and downtown workers orbiting Golden 1 Center.
As reported by the Sacramento Business Journal, Cakes By Jeff will not renew its lease at Downtown Commons and will close the shop after July 31. The outlet framed the move as the latest shake-up in the retail zone surrounding the arena.
How Cakes By Jeff Landed At Doco In 2023
DOCO first brought in Cakes By Jeff as a terrace storefront in May 2023, promoting it as the brand’s first standalone location and spotlighting its wide range of cheesecake flavors plus a tasting "Sweet Flight." The debut was pitched as part of a broader effort to build an entertainment-adjacent stretch of dining and retail on the terrace, according to a DOCO press release.
Turnover On The Terrace
That terrace dining row has been in flux this year as operators try to find concepts that can reliably handle Golden 1 Center crowds along with quieter, off-game days. The DOCO storefront may be shutting down, but Cakes By Jeff will still be taking orders elsewhere. The business continues to operate an online shop, offer custom cakes and run a cheesecake membership program, according to Cakes By Jeff.
