A hit-and-run crash just north of downtown San Antonio sent a Buick rolling and left a juvenile hurt Friday evening, and police say the driver responsible took off on foot before officers arrived.
The collision happened around 6:40 p.m. near North Colorado and Ruiz Street. Investigators say the driver of a Camry ran a red light, slammed into the Buick and then ditched the car and ran, while emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Crash details
The impact was strong enough to flip the Buick, and a juvenile passenger was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. KABB reports that San Antonio police are still working to track down the fleeing driver.
Legal consequences
Under the Texas Transportation Code, any driver involved in a crash that causes injury is required to stop, share identifying information and offer reasonable help to anyone who is hurt. Leaving the scene when someone is injured can be charged as a felony, with penalties that increase as the seriousness of the injury goes up, according to the Texas Transportation Code.
What police are asking
San Antonio police say the Camry driver faces a charge of collision involving injury if found. They are asking anyone who might have information or surveillance footage from around the time of the crash to contact authorities. As KABB notes, detectives spent Friday night canvassing the neighborhood, looking for witnesses and video that could point them to the suspect.
