A midday ride on a southbound E train turned violent when a 44-year-old man was assaulted at the Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street station on Saturday, July 11, at approximately 11:10 a.m., police said. The attacker approached the rider and tried to yank away his cross‑body bag. When that grab failed, the assailant punched and kicked the man, then bolted from the train on foot. The victim was left shaken, and police have circulated images as they ask the public to help identify the suspect.
Two weeks after the attack, NYPD Crime Stoppers put out a wanted alert with still images and transcripts, asking anyone with information to come forward. As posted by NYPD Crime Stoppers, the department said the incident occurred within the confines of the 110th Precinct and Transit District 20 and that the suspect "fled to parts unknown."

Where the attack took place
The assault happened inside the busy Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street complex, a major Queens transfer hub served by the 7, E, F, M and R lines. According to the MTA, the station links multiple subway lines and handles heavy foot traffic, which can make quick street-level getaways easier for someone trying not to be noticed. The agency also notes the complex's key role in Queens transit.

Police are asking anyone with video, photos or witness information to contact Crime Stoppers. Tipsters can call the hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), the Spanish line at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), or submit an internet tip. Callers may be eligible for rewards of up to $3,500 if their information leads to an arrest, as outlined on the NYPD site.
Recent incidents at the hub
The Roosevelt Avenue hub has seen other violence in recent weeks. On June 30, a stabbing aboard a northbound E train sent a rider to the hospital, a case reported by ABC7. Hoodline previously covered a separate April groping incident at the station, with police again asking for tips in connection with a subway groper on the loose.
Investigators say they are reviewing station and cellphone footage and are urging riders who were on the southbound E train that morning, as well as residents who live near the station and have doorbell or security-camera video, to contact Crime Stoppers with any leads. The NYPD notes that tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for rewards.
