Relatives are demanding answers after 41-year-old Lucy Robledo was found dead on a sidewalk in east Las Vegas, with police later discovering what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound and opening a homicide investigation. Loved ones say they suspect she was hit by a stray bullet and have built a makeshift memorial near where her body was found.
According to KTNV, dispatchers received a call shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday about an unresponsive woman in the 1200 block of North Eastern Avenue, between Owens and Washington. First responders arrived and pronounced Robledo dead at the scene, and the LVMPD Homicide Section was called in to handle the case, the station reported.
Coroner notes gunshot wounds
FOX5 reports that the Clark County coroner later documented a gunshot wound to Robledo’s neck and said investigators found another wound during a closer exam. The outlet states the coroner formally identified Robledo, and that officials have not released any information about a suspect or a possible motive. Authorities have asked anyone with information to call LVMPD's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521.
Family leans toward stray-bullet theory
Robledo’s relatives told 8NewsNow they believe the wounds line up more with a stray round than with a targeted attack. Family members say they placed flowers and candles on the sidewalk near Eastern and Washington and set up a smaller memorial by her boyfriend’s trailer, which sits on property behind a nearby carwash, with his permission. They also launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs, according to the outlet.
“Investigators initially thought it was an intentional homicide,” Ivan Robledo told 8NewsNow. He said detectives later told the family they were looking into whether a road-rage incident might have led to a stray bullet that struck his mother. The family also claims a nearby church asked them to remove the memorial and threw some items away; the church did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
What investigators are asking for
Metro is urging anyone who saw activity in the area of the 1200 block of North Eastern Avenue in the early morning hours to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or email [email protected], or to share anonymous tips with Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, per KTNV. The Clark County coroner will issue the official cause and manner of death after examinations are finished. Detectives say the case is still active and have asked anyone with video or other potential evidence to come forward.
