A 54-year-old man was rushed to the hospital early Saturday after what he described as a baffling ordeal on San Antonio's East Side: he told police he woke up in pain and realized he had been shot in the legs. The man said he had been inside a restroom on Iowa Street when he heard a single gunshot, lost consciousness, then came to with apparent gunshot wounds to his lower legs. A passerby found him and took him to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Drive, where officers met them.
Police response and victim's account
Officers were called around 6:40 a.m. to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Drive for a reported shooting, according to News 4 San Antonio. The victim told investigators he had been in a restroom in the 1100 block of Iowa Street when he heard what he believed was a gunshot and then blacked out. When he woke up, he said, he discovered injuries to his lower extremities that appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Medical crews took the man to a local hospital for treatment. Police said they still do not know exactly how the shooting happened, and as of the latest report they had no information to release about a possible suspect.
