After nearly four months of going dark, Easy Tyger is flipping the lights back on this Saturday at 1230 E. Brady St., trading its longtime ramen identity for a weekend brunch play. The East Side spot is pivoting to breakfast-leaning comfort food, from fried chicken and waffles to banoffee French toast and hefty pancake stacks. The reopening wraps up a hiatus that began in late March as owner Nongluk "Nini" Trick pushes ahead with other projects around the city.
Brunch Hours, Slim Schedule and a Fresh Lineup
Starting Saturday, Easy Tyger plans to run a tight schedule, opening Friday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The new brunch menu fully replaces the ramen, making room for dishes like fried chicken and waffles, breakfast burritos, shakshouka, eggs Benedict and open-faced breakfast sandwiches. "I just want to move forward with the new adventure that I have been thinking about for so long," Trick told Urban Milwaukee. She added that she hopes to stretch those hours once the restaurant is fully staffed.
Owner’s East Side Roots and Expanding Footprint
Trick first launched Easy Tyger on New Year’s Eve 2015 with then-business partner Dear Panyasopa and is also a partner in Thai‑Namite. She is part of the team behind Wela, a modern Thai restaurant slated for the Historic Third Ward, along with co-owners Khemanong Kongsin, Rachataphoom Phonimdaeng and Somchok Sansawas, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Wela project highlights Trick’s broader investments in Milwaukee’s dining scene.
Sudden Shutdown, Big Questions and a Brady Street Reset
When Easy Tyger went on pause in late March, the restaurant’s website posted only a short closure note, apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking customers for their patience. The abrupt halt sparked online speculation and plenty of questions. Former employees did not respond to interview requests, according to Urban Milwaukee. Neighbors on Brady Street say they are relieved to see the once-quiet storefront gearing up for business again.
Diners get their first crack at the reboot this weekend when Easy Tyger reopens its doors. If the brunch concept clicks and staffing allows longer hours, the East Side could gain another daytime magnet on Brady Street. We will be watching to see how the new menu lands with regulars and curious newcomers alike.
