Hollywood BBQ Kitchen, the soul-food favorite that has spent years working the streets as a food truck, has planted roots in Edmondson Village with its first brick-and-mortar carryout. The new walk-up spot on Edmondson Avenue brings slow-smoked ribs, classic sides and even a homemade jingle to a stretch of West Baltimore that knows its barbecue.
Owner David “Hollywood” Mitchell says the recipes trace straight back to his grandmother’s kitchen, where he first learned to cook. He still smokes his ribs for five hours to keep them, in his words, “finger-licking good and falling off the bone.” He told WMAR-2 News that the permanent shop is the payoff after years of loyal customers, plus a long permitting and renovation slog, and that he even wrote a jingle to spread the word. On the menu are slow-cooked ribs, mac and cheese, string beans, chicken, and a crispy fish sandwich.
Where To Find It And How To Order
The carryout is located in Edmondson Village. Listings on delivery platforms put Hollywood BBQ Kitchen at 2822 Edmondson Ave, Suite B, in Baltimore. Hours and ordering details are posted on Hollywood BBQ Kitchen's website, and the shop offers pickup along with delivery through services such as Uber Eats.
Part Of A Local Trend
Baltimore has seen a run of mobile vendors turning pop-ups and farmers-market followings into permanent storefronts. This move can steady revenue and make it easier to expand menus. One recent example is Blacksauce Kitchen, which made the jump from the farmers market circuit to a Remington shop, a trajectory covered by Baltimore Magazine.
More Than A Pitmaster
Mitchell is not just tending the smoker. He is also a longtime performer with the Panama Band, and WMAR-2 News reports the group has played high-profile shows and shared stages with artists including Rick James and Al Green. Mitchell says that musical streak helps make Hollywood BBQ Kitchen feel like a neighborhood hangout as much as a takeout window.
