Pastry chef Jasmine Weiser Kaysen, the talent behind Edwards Dessert Kitchen, is gearing up to launch a new patisserie called Clementine in Tangletown in south Minneapolis. The cozy 20-seat bakery is set to take over the former Spice Your Life seasonings shop at 614 W. 54th St., serving viennoiserie pastries, ice cream, cakes and coffee. If all goes according to plan, Clementine could be welcoming customers as early as this fall.
Where Clementine Will Be
According to the Star Tribune, Weiser Kaysen has secured a spot just off Lyndale Avenue, near Kowalski’s Market and South Lyndale Liquors. The space, formerly home to Spice Your Life, will be reworked into a small, neighborhood-focused dining room with about 20 seats, designed for quick stops as well as linger-all-afternoon pastry runs.
About The Chef
As reported by the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal, Weiser Kaysen led Edwards Dessert Kitchen for seven years before the North Loop restaurant closed last summer. Her résumé includes stints at Patisserie 46 and the Marin at the Chambers Hotel, and she told the outlet that the closure of Edwards made it feel like the right time to branch out on her own finally.
What To Expect From Clementine
Per the Star Tribune, Clementine’s menu will "utilize French techniques" with a firm focus on desserts. Planned offerings include an Ispahan Rose Swiss roll and a Chocolate & Creme mousse cake, signaling a playful yet precise approach to pastry. Weiser Kaysen told the paper she is considering expanding the program after opening to add wine and cocktails, along with weekly, ticketed dessert tasting menus.
What This Means For Tangletown
Clementine’s arrival adds another chef-driven option to Tangletown’s commercial strip, which already leans on neighborhood groceries and cafes to pull in regular foot traffic. A compact patisserie with coffee and polished sweets has the potential to become a midday stop for shoppers, parents, and commuters looking for an upgraded pastry-and-coffee break.
Weiser Kaysen named the shop after her daughter, and she has emphasized that the build-out timeline remains tentative. If everything stays on schedule, Clementine could open its doors this fall. Local outlets, along with the chef’s own channels, are expected to share firm opening dates and details on any ticketed tasting nights as they are finalized.
