Elderly Driver Dies After Smash Into Westheimer Utility Pole

A 75-year-old man died after a westbound Honda Civic crashed into a utility pole near the 6100 block of Westheimer Road around 7 p.m. last Sunday, according to Houston police. Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed the driver to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

What Police Say

In a statement from the Houston Police Department, investigators said the white Honda Civic failed to maintain a single lane before striking the pole. The victim was described only as a 75-year-old man, with his identity being withheld until the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences can notify his family.

HPD listed the crash under incident number 091755126-L and said the case is being handled by the Vehicular Crimes Division, specifically Sgt. A. Yasin and Officer K. Hines.

Deadly Stretch of Westheimer

The 6100 block of Westheimer has seen more than its share of tragedy in recent years. The Houston Chronicle reported that a March 2022 collision in the same block killed a husband and wife. In a separate incident in May 2022, ABC13 covered the death of a bicyclist who was struck and killed there.
