A two-alarm townhome fire jolted an Ellicott City neighborhood early Monday, sending two firefighters to be treated for minor injuries and leaving part of a building collapsed as crews fought to knock down the flames.
Early Morning Blaze In Turf Valley
According to WMAR-2 News, the fire broke out shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of Legends Way in the Turf Valley area and spread to an adjoining unit, triggering a second alarm. Crews from Howard County Fire & EMS moved quickly through the attached homes, checking for hazards and any sign the flames had jumped farther down the row.
WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore reports that firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 8 a.m., then shifted their focus to overhaul and safety checks in neighboring units.
Roof Partially Collapses
As crews battled the fire, the roof of at least one of the townhomes gave way, according to WMAR-2 News. Two firefighters were evaluated at the scene for minor injuries and were expected to recover. There were no immediate reports of civilian injuries.
Damage And Aftermath
The fire damaged two attached townhomes as crews worked to secure utilities and clear the area for investigators. WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore notes that officials have not yet released a dollar estimate for the damage, and the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Howard County Fire & EMS personnel and fire investigators are continuing to examine the charred structures and speak with witnesses to piece together how the early morning fire started. WMAR-2 News reports that residents in the immediate area were being checked for safety as the scene was secured.
