A quiet block in Far Rockaway turned into an active crime scene Tuesday morning after a 61-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside her home, leaving neighbors rattled and police searching for answers. Officers discovered the victim with multiple stab wounds, and medics pronounced her dead a short time later. Police say they are treating the killing as a possible domestic incident while they work to piece together what unfolded inside the residence.
According to PIX11, officers found the woman, identified by police as Joanne Crawford, around 10:45 a.m. on Nameoke Avenue near Pinson Street. Medics pronounced Crawford dead at the scene, and sources told reporters she had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Detectives Ask For Tips
Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers. Tips can be shared anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or through the department’s online portal, as detailed on the NYPD Crime Stoppers page. Authorities say rewards may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
Investigation Under Way
Sources told local reporters the killing is likely tied to a domestic dispute, and police said there were no signs of forced entry at the home. The relationship between Crawford and any potential suspect has not been clarified, and as of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been announced, according to local reporting.
Detectives have asked neighbors to save any door-cam or cellphone footage and to contact Crime Stoppers or call 911 with anything that might help the investigation. Officials said more information will be released as the case develops.
