Fat Cat, the intimate jazz-and-blues lounge tucked inside the Downtown Grand, has gone quiet after a three-year run, its operators announced this week. The cozy room had turned into a go-to stop for late-night jam sessions and visiting jazz artists, and its closure trims an already slim roster of true listening rooms in downtown Las Vegas.
Owners Russell Gardner and Natalie Burge shared the news on social media, thanking “our musicians, guests, and neighbors” and explaining that they plan to shift Fat Cat’s live-music programming to their sister venues. As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the post did not include a public timetable for the club’s final nights.
The club, at 206 N. Third St. inside the Downtown Grand, mixed local showcases with higher-profile bookings. Songkick’s venue page lists past performers that include Robert Glasper. The concept launched in late 2023 as an intentionally musician-first spot, with Gardner describing the goal as “a place where musicians can be musicians,” a background detailed by SFGATE.
Where the music is going
Gardner and Burge say they plan to fold Fat Cat's bookings into Grey Witch and Red Dwarf, their other venues across the valley. Grey Witch opened in May 2025 and was set up as a larger, multigenre music room, while Red Dwarf operates at 1305 E. Vegas Valley Dr. Both venues are run by the couple, according to Grey Witch.
What Fat Cat meant to downtown
For musicians and fans looking for a true listening room instead of background soundtrack, Fat Cat was one of downtown's few reliable options. Its Songkick event archive shows a steady calendar of jazz, blues and touring headliners. The loss is likely to be felt by local players who used its late-night sets to test new material and stay plugged in with visiting artists.
Gardner and Burge invited musicians and patrons to follow their social channels for updates and to keep an eye on Grey Witch and Red Dwarf's calendars for relocated shows. Event details for upcoming nights are available at Grey Witch and on Red Dwarf.
