A fatal motorcycle collision shut down every lane of State Route 99 near Lincoln Way on Thursday, with no reopening time posted as troopers investigated. The crash left drivers in the Snohomish County corridor facing an open-ended closure.
WSDOT Traffic, relaying information from Washington State Patrol District 7, said SR 99 was "fully blocked" because of a fatal collision involving a motorcycle. The agency urged drivers to use alternate routes and said there was no estimate for when the roadway would reopen, according to WSDOT Traffic.
The initial alert did not identify the person who died, say whether anyone else was injured, or provide a cause for the crash. Troopers remained at the scene while the investigation continued, and the highway closure was expected to remain in place during that work.
A Corridor With A Recent Deadly Motorcycle Crash
The Lincoln Way stretch has seen another fatal motorcycle crash in recent years. In July 2024, 27-year-old Alexis Hernandez Cerritos of Everett died on southbound SR 99 near Lincoln Way after an unknown northbound vehicle turned left in front of him, according to Fox 13 Seattle.
A draft corridor memo from the Washington State Department of Transportation lists two fatal or serious-injury crashes near SR 99 north of Lincoln Way between 2019 and 2023. That broader safety record does not explain Thursday's wreck, whose circumstances and victim identification were still unavailable in the initial alert.
