A Wednesday morning fight outside Flagstaff Mall turned deadly when gunfire left one man dead and another seriously injured, according to police.
Just before 9:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near Marketplace Drive and Mall Way, north of Route 66. When they arrived, they found two men at the scene. One was pronounced dead, and the other was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.
Investigators told reporters they believe the violence began as a confrontation between the two men that escalated into a shooting. At this point, police say there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the case is being treated as a homicide.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, detectives currently do not believe there are any outstanding suspects in the case. The outlet also reported that officers placed the timing of the incident just before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Marketplace Drive and Mall Way.
Arizona's Family reports that Flagstaff police asked people to steer clear of the area while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. Officials have not yet released the identities of the men involved.
Authorities are urging anyone who was nearby, especially those who may have recorded video or snapped photos, to contact detectives to help them piece together how the fight began and how it turned deadly.
