A Florida woman wanted on a minor-kidnapping charge was arrested near Dothan after police used license plate readers and drones to track down her vehicle. The child authorities said was endangered was found inside and placed in protective care.

Jenay Dominique Burns, 38, was taken into custody Wednesday without incident, according to a release from the Dothan Police Department. Police said Burns was wanted in Florida on charges that included kidnapping a minor, along with probation-revocation charges connected to Orlando.

The search began after Orlando investigators alerted Dothan authorities that Burns might be traveling through the area with an endangered child younger than 10, WTVY reported. Florida investigators used networked license plate readers to confirm that a red Nissan Rogue with a Florida tag had entered the region.

As 95.5 WSB detailed, Orange County court records list Burns’ last address as Kissimmee, though authorities have not publicly explained her relationship to the child.

Police Followed The Vehicle From West Main Street

Dothan police drone operators used the vehicle description and images generated by the license plate-reader system to locate the Nissan on West Main Street, according to the department. Investigators then stopped the vehicle near the intersection of U.S. 231 South and Highway 109, just south of Dothan.

The child was found inside the vehicle and taken into the custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources, WTVY reported. Alabama officials were coordinating with Florida authorities to reunite the child with family members.

Burns Awaits Extradition To Florida

Burns was booked into the Houston County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Florida, the Dothan Police Department said. The arrest remains an allegation-based case, and the public information released so far does not describe the underlying circumstances of the alleged kidnapping or indicate whether Florida prosecutors have filed additional details.
