A routine wellness check at a Foothill Farms apartment early Saturday turned into a death investigation when Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies found a woman dead inside, authorities said. The discovery at a unit on the 7400 block of Holworthy Way has now prompted a homicide-level investigation.

According to The Sacramento Bee, deputies were called to the 7400 block of Holworthy Way early Saturday after someone requested a welfare check. When deputies arrived, there was no answer at the door.

In a post by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, officials said the apartment door was unlocked, so deputies went inside. Once in the unit, they found a deceased adult woman. The office has not released the victim’s name or age.
The Sacramento Bee reported that homicide detectives have been assigned to the case and that the department plans to update the public as more information becomes available.
