A Fort Worth police officer was arrested in Springtown last Friday on a DWI charge, putting a department employee under both criminal scrutiny and an internal administrative investigation. K. Blasingame, most recently assigned to the patrol bureau, will remain on restricted duty while those inquiries continue, officials said.
The arrest occurred last Friday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Blasingame joined the Fort Worth Police Department in 2016, and the department has not publicly detailed the circumstances leading to the arrest, including whether the officer was on duty, whether a crash occurred or whether alcohol-test results are available.
Restricted duty has been used by the department as an interim step in previous cases involving officers accused of misconduct. In a 2024 DWI case involving Officer Willie Nash, The Dallas Morning News reported that Fort Worth opened an internal affairs investigation after Nash’s arrest and placed him on restricted duty.
What The DWI Charge Means In Texas
Under Texas law, a person commits driving while intoxicated if they operate a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated. The state defines intoxication as losing the normal use of mental or physical faculties because of alcohol or drugs, or having an alcohol concentration of at least 0.08, according to Texas Penal Code Chapter 49.
The criminal allegation and the department’s administrative review are separate processes, and an arrest does not establish guilt. The Star-Telegram report did not identify an attorney for Blasingame or indicate whether prosecutors have filed additional charges.
For now, Blasingame remains on restricted duty as Fort Worth officials review the arrest and the department examines whether policy violations occurred. No final disciplinary action or court outcome has been announced.
