UTMB Health has cut off an employee's access to work while it digs into a short social media clip that blew up online this week. The roughly eight-second video shows someone who appears to be a nurse backing out of a doorway with on-screen text that reads "when I walk into my patient's room and Fox News is blasting," set over a snippet of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." The post was quickly boosted by political accounts and drew enough heat that the health system stepped in with a public response.

UTMB launches investigation

Officials at the University of Texas Medical Branch told a high-traffic aggregator account that they were aware of the posts and had opened an investigation. The health center said the employee's access to work at any UTMB facility has been suspended while the review is ongoing, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. That statement came after the short clip was reposted on national accounts and started racking up views.

How a short clip spreads

Accounts that aggregate viral content can take a relatively private post and blast it out to millions overnight. NBC News has documented dozens of cases in which reposts of social media content were followed by harassment and hoax threats aimed at the people or institutions featured. That pattern has made hospitals and schools especially cautious when staff social posts turn into public outrage fuel.

The original account tied to the clip, identified in reporting as @nurse.ahlam.rn, was set to private and did not respond to requests for comment. Eight seconds of the video were reposted to Libs of TikTok's X account and, according to the Chronicle, drew hundreds of thousands of views while stills from the clip spread across other platforms. UTMB declined to provide additional personnel details while the investigation continues, the Chronicle reported.

What investigators could look for

If UTMB's internal review finds the post violated institutional policy or professional standards, the employee could face disciplinary action up to removal from duty and reporting to licensing authorities. Under Texas law the State Board of Nursing has disciplinary authority and may investigate and impose sanctions, including suspension or revocation of a license, under the Texas Occupations Code and the Board's rules (Texas Occupations Code; Texas Board of Nursing).

For now UTMB says the employee's access to facilities remains suspended while the review plays out. Officials have not given a timeline for the investigation and are not releasing identifying information about the worker.
