Downtown Los Angeles rolled into Monday, July 6 under patchy morning fog and temperatures in the low 60s, but the gray start is not expected to last. Clouds should thin fairly quickly, giving way to a warm, mostly sunny afternoon with a high near 83F, so keep a light layer for the cool commute and plan on shedding it by late morning.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Patchy fog is set to hang around the basin and coastal valleys through the late morning, especially before 11 a.m., then break up into mostly sunny skies. Afternoon sea breezes should keep the immediate coast on the cooler side, while central Downtown and nearby inland neighborhoods climb into the low to mid 80s. Overnight, coastal areas will likely see the marine layer slide back in, so expect another cool, gray start to Tuesday morning.
Midweek Heat And Gusty Inland Winds
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for non-coastal parts of the region from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7 through 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9. Inland valleys can expect highs in the 90s to lower 100s, with some interior spots near or above 100F and the Antelope Valley near 104F. Gusty onshore winds may push up to around 35 mph in the Antelope Valley and foothills this afternoon and evening, and Sundowner winds could produce 4550 mph gusts across southwest Santa Barbara County later this week, conditions that will raise fire-weather concerns. If you have outdoor plans inland during midweek, shift strenuous activity to morning hours and keep an eye out for sudden gusts and warmer temperatures, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard.
Cooling Options And Safety Tips
If you do not have reliable air conditioning, Los Angeles County and local libraries maintain lists of cooling centers and extended hours during heat events, and you can call 2-1-1 for up-to-date locations and times. Bring water, check on neighbors and pets, and avoid heavy outdoor work during the hottest hours. More resources and a list of local locations are available via the LA County Library.
